Here is our unboxing and hands-on video of Mi Max
MIUI8 is Xiaomi’s 8th iteration of their custom Android ROM. It goes with the tagline, “Simplify your life“. MIUI8 has been redesigned from bottom-up and includes lots of changes compared to MIUI7. It is both loaded with features and is visually pleasing. MIUI8’s design language is inspired from a Kaleidoscope and uses a lot of colors and shapes.
Some of the notable changes include the completely redesigned Notification Area which is now dynamic and shows animations based on real time happenings. Some of the apps that got redesigned as the Gallery, Weather App, Voice Recorder, etc.
The Dialer and Contacts app has been redesigned to do a lot more. It now comes with MIUI Caller ID feature which works based on crowd-sourced reports. It even labels and adds images for some of the Service SMS that we receive on our phone and which are hard to identify.
The Calculator now does more than just regular arithmetic operations. It now has various Convertors built-in. These include Weight conversions, Temperature conversions, Currency conversions and much more.
One of the new features that’s really exciting is the Scrolling Screenshot. Now you can take screenshots of a whole page by scrolling down and have it all in a single image. You can also crop the screenshot to make it precise according to your need. Another nifty addition is the Quick Ball, which is similar to the Assistive Touch on the iOS device. You can place this anywhere on the screen and it can have five different pre-defined actions, or it can be configured to open any apps that you wish to.
A unique new feature that’s coming to MIUI8 is the Dual Apps. At present, you can have only one instance of WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram, Instagram, Uber, etc. on your phone. But what if you want to run two WhatsApps or two Facebook accounts? Well, Dual Apps takes care of that by cloning the app and keeps the apps separate.
If this was not enough, MIUI8 bring a totally new feature called Second Space. It creates a totally different space which makes it looks like you’re having two phones. Each of the space can have separate Galleries, Apps, Call History etc. You can switch between the two space quickly as well.
MIUI8 will be available on most of the Xiaomi phones that were sold here in India. The public beta OTA will start on July 11th and the devices will start getting stable updates from August 16th onwards.
Also, as a result of Xiaomi’s new partnership with Hungama, Xiaomi has also announced three months free subscription of Hungama Play and 1-year free subscription of Hungama Music for all Mi fans on their Mi smartphones.
